Navantia performs sea trials Patrol Navy "Pebane" Mozambique

American independent Anadarko took the second major step towards a Four Train, 20MMTPA LNG plant from Offshore Mozambique on Tuesday January 8, 2013.

The company’s award of a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract to a Joint Venture vehicle comprising Fluor and JGC comes two weeks after it reached Heads of Agreement (HOA) with Eni, establishing foundational principles for the coordinated development of the common natural gas reservoirs spanning both Mozambique’s Offshore Area 1 (operated by Anadarko) and Offshore Area 4 (operated by Eni). Anadarko targets the first LNG cargo for 2018.

The facility will be located in the Cabo Delgado province, 2 000 km north-east of Mozambique’s capital, Maputo. Anadarko discovered massive reservoirs of gas in the Indian Ocean offshore Mozambique in early 2010. Eni arrived later, continuing the luck in a different block. Both companies are on record as saying that the reservoirs are some of the largest discoveries in their portfolios in over 10 years.

New York listed Flour and Japanese firm JGC have a 50-50 partnership in the JV that won the FEED contract. They say they have “ brought together a talented and experienced team that leverages the combined strengths of JGC’s industry-leading LNG experience with Fluor’s fifty-plus year reputation for executing large complex projects in sub-Saharan Africa.”

The FEED will deliver designs for the initial phase of the project, which will consist of four trains, each capable of producing five-million tons a year of liquefied natural gas (LNG), culminating in 20-million metric tons a year. The project has the potential to expand to a capacity of about 50-million metric tons a year of LNG.

Pemba is the capital of Cabo Delgado Province, the northern most province of Mozambique bordering Tanzania. Together, Anadarko (American) and ENI (Italian) as consortium leaders of off-shore areas 1 and 4, respectively, have discovered gas fields potentially suitable to transform and export as LNG to asian markets. The resources discovered in exploration phases on the off-shore areas are in the range of 100 to 120 tcf gas in place.

Statoil (Norwegian) and Petronas (Malaysian) each hold two large contiguous exploration blocks South of the Anadarko and Eni blocks. The image to the right shows some of the current discoveries and the sizes of the blocks with their respective consortium leaders.

Anadrako and ENI have decided to use Pemba as the hub for their upstream off-shore activities. Seven of the top ten E&P companies are also basing operations in Pemba.

Anadarko’s projected location for the LNG plant for Cabo Delgado is Palma, the northern-most district on Mozambique’s vast shoreline. It is the closest land point from the gas fields that will likely be developed.

Anadarko Makes Another Gas Discovery Offshore Mozambique

Anadarko Petroleum Corporation  announced the discovery of a new natural gas accumulation fully contained within the Offshore Area 1 of the Rovuma Basin of Mozambique. The Orca-1 discovery well encountered approximately 190 net feet (58 meters) of natural gas pay in a Paleocene fan system.

“Discovering another large, distinct and separate natural gas accumulation in the Offshore Area 1 continues our outstanding exploration success offshore Mozambique,” said Sr. Vice President, Worldwide Exploration Bob Daniels. “We are designing an initial two-well appraisal program to define the areal extent of the Orca field, which will commence immediately after drilling our Linguado and Espadarte exploration wells. Orca is a single large Paleocene column, and its proximity to shore provides additional options and flexibility for potential future development.”

The Orca-1 exploration well was drilled to a total depth of approximately 16,391 feet (4,996 meters), in water depths of approximately 3,481 feet (1,061 meters).

Anadarko is the operator in the Offshore Area 1 with a 36.5-percent working interest. Co-owners include Mitsui E&P Mozambique Area 1, Limited (20 percent), BPRL Ventures Mozambique B.V. (10 percent), Videocon Mozambique Rovuma 1 Limited (10 percent) and PTT Exploration & Production Plc (8.5 percent). Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos, ep’s 15-percent interest is carried through the exploration phase.

Mozambique. Sacyr, a través de sus filiales portuguesas Somague y Neopul, se ha adjudicado dos obras en Mozambique para la multinacional minera brasileña Vale, por importe global de 177 millones de euros (228 millones de dólares).

Los contratos adjudicados se refieren a las secciones 6, 7.1 y 7.2 de la línea de Nacala, en una extensión de unos 600 kilómetros, conocido como el Corredor de Nacala, e incluyen la rehabilitación de la infraestructura y superestructura ferroviaria.

El proyecto del Corredor de Nacala busca desarrollar una solución logística para la expansión de la mina de Moatize, en la provincia de Tete. Este corredor ferroviario tiene una extensión total de 912 kilómetros, y tras las obras de mejora tendrá capacidad para mover 18 millones de toneladas de carbón al año al comunicar la mina de Moatize, 20 kilómetros al nordeste de Tete, con el Puerto de Nacala-a-Velha, en la costa del océano Índico, pasando por Malawi.

Sacyr cuenta con una amplia experiencia en todo tipo de obras ferroviarias, como por ejemplo varios tramos del metro de Barcelona, Madrid, Sevilla, Palma de Mallorca, el tranvía a San Fernando (Cádiz), varios tramos del metro de Oporto y Lisboa en Portugal y de Dublín y Portlaoise en Irlanda. Además, de la integración del ferrocarril en las ciudades de Logroño y Málaga, el desdoblamiento de la línea ferroviaria de Palermo (Italia), entre otras obras. En líneas de alta velocidad, Sacyr ha construido más de 700 km de vía por un importe superior a 4.200 millones de euros, con contratos de construcción de plataforma, montaje y renovación de vía con maquinaria propia.

Fluor Corporation and JGC Corporation have announced winning a 50/50 joint venture front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract for the first natural gas liquefaction facility in Mozambique.
The project is located in the Cabo Delgado Province, 2,000km northeast of the capital city Maputo.
The FEED will deliver designs for the initial phase of the Mozambique LNG project of four trains, each producing five million metric tonnes per annum of liquefied natural gas (20 MMTPA total), with the potential of expansion in capacity up to 50 MMTPA.
“This is an important regional and strategic win for both joint venture parent companies,” said Peter Oosterveer, Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals Group president.
“The team leverages the combined strengths of JGC’s industry-leading LNG experience with Fluor’s 50-plus year reputation for executing large complex projects in sub-Saharan Africa.”
Fluor will book the contract in the first quarter 2013, while the first LNG cargo is targeted for 2018.
